CNDH participates in an online seminar under the slogan: 75 Years, Development of the Human Rights System, Implications and Prospects
On Thursday, October 22, 2020, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) took part in an online workshop organized by the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) in cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-west Asia and the Arab Region. A group of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) members of the ANNHRI and some civil society organizations in the region participated in this seminar.
This symposium was organized under the slogan: 75 Years, Development of the Human Rights System, Implications and Prospects. It focused on ways to improve and develop the work of human rights organizations to face the current challenges in the Arab countries relating to human rights. Stakeholders also discussed the interaction of these countries with international human rights mechanisms, to promote and protect human rights and spread their culture in the Arab region.
Mr. Ali Karimi, CNDH member and Head of the Permanent Committee on monitoring and protecting human rights violations, and Mr. Khalid Ramli, Director of Cooperation and International Relations represented the CNDH. Their interventions focused on the need for NHRIs to interact with the United Nations system, especially by encouraging states to ratify or join relevant international instruments, urging governments to harmonize their national legislation with international standards, and submitting reports to international human rights mechanisms whenever it is possible while considering the independence of NHRIs and their roles, in accordance with the Paris Principles.
